Since it's release there's been nothing but praise for Saga, and due to this I personally had to try it. It may have taken a while but I am far from disappointed, as although there are a few series that live up to the high praise, there are few that do it quite as well as Saga.
Brian K. Vaughan creates something magical here, introducing the main characters in a very unique way. Vaughan also adds a lot of depth to the series through the unique narration, with the story being told by the couples child in a memoir fashion. I personally however was most interested at how much trouble this forbidden love has caused, with the main characters and their child having to go on the run in perilous conditions. Added to this the intense development points along with the uniqueness of each race and it's hard not to love this series.
The best thing about this series was the art, with Fiona Staples creating some phenomenal work, with detail to the highest of standards. Staples also created a very dynamic and impact layout for the series as well, with it helping the flow of the story brilliantly. The facial expressions along with the exciting action and stunning scenery was also very appealing, giving a very lively tone to the series. On top of all this Staples also produced some fantastic inks and colours, and due to having control over her own colours it gave a very vibrant finish to her already stunning artwork.
Saga proves to be one of the best romance/adventure series ever, proving that you can have spectacular romances in comics without them making the series too cute or dull. Highly recommended.
